Keeping your house clean when you have pets

Everybody knows that pets are basically like babies. You need to feed them, look after them, make sure they don't eat anything they shouldn't. Most importantly, you need to clean up after them. Even if you try your best and train them not to drag in dirt, it can be tough to keep your entire house clean when you have pets - they aren't humans, after all. In that case, here is a guide to keeping your house clean when you have pets.

Clean your pets

Although pets usually have their own methods for cleaning themselves, you can't always depend on that. One of the easiest ways to make sure you maintain a clean house is to keep your pets clean as well. You don't need to bathe your pets every single day, but make sure you scrub their fur and give them a plain water wash at least once a day. Assign an area for them to dry off so they don't drag wet tracks everywhere.

Consider the furniture

It is not common knowledge, but certain materials attract hair more than others. If your couches or armchairs have a certain material, you may notice that these furniture items are dirtier than most. In that case, when you have a pet, make sure you look for leather-covered furniture in a color that matches your pets. That way, the furniture won't accumulate too many hairs, and even if it does, it won't look too noticeable.

Vacuum

Vacuum cleaners are essential when it comes to cleaning with pets. However, not all vacuums are created the same. When buying a vacuum, make sure it is appropriate for cleaning after pets. If you allow your pet to lounge around on the couch, make sure you consider investing in a vacuum that can clean over furniture as well.

Clean your pet's toys

Cleaning your pet's toys and items is as important as cleaning your pet itself. They might be covered in grime, dirt, and old saliva, but it is essential to clean them up so they don't dirty your house and for your pet's health as well. Depending on the specifications of the toy, you can either machine wash them or wash them by hand.

Don't wait to clean

As with children, you need to clean up immediately after your pets as well. The key here is not to let the dirt sit for too long - it will only solidify and cement itself permanently. When your pet makes a mess, make sure you clean it up as soon as you can. The longer you let it sit, the tougher it will be to remove the stains afterward. Life with pets means a life with a mess - that doesn't mean you should leave it a mess, though!
